I have to admit, lying is not on my list of qualities that I look for in a human being. Honesty, integrity, authenticity, kindness, loyalty would likely make my Top 5. But liar? That doesn’t even make the list!
We all lie to some degree.
Admit it, you lie. We’re all guilty of those little white lies in conversations, like when a girlfriend asks “does my butt look big in these jeans?” I mean, honestly, who would say, “Yes, your butt seriously looks HUGE in those jeans, girl!” The better answer is something like, “You have jeans that look better with that shirt,” or “Maybe you’ll feel more comfortable if you wear a longer sweater on our trip?”
Our entire world has a lying problem.
Our family, friends, coworkers and spouses lie too. And if you have kids at home, you can bet there’s a little liar under your roof!
The occasional stretch of truth is expected in our fallen world, but it’s such a let down when we find out that words from a loved one repeatedly can’t be trusted.
We all know someone who is not trust worthy.
I have a member of my life circle who often struggles telling the truth, pretty much about everything. It’s hard to trust words that come out of their mouth.
It hurts when you can’t trust the people closest to you.
Over the years they have built up a history of falsehood that’s so strong, even when they tell the truth, we look at them with distrust.
Sometimes the big liar in your life is YOU!
Yes, YOU! How often do you look in the mirror and tell yourself you are ugly, fat or stupid?
How many times over the years have you fixated on how much you hate your nose or another body part that just isn’t measuring up to your warped expectations?
Count the number of times you have told yourself that you are defined by the number on the scale or the size of your pants. Too many to count, right?
Those are all lies too. Lies the enemy wants you to focus on instead of embracing beautiful truths about who you are as the daughter of a King.
5 truths about who you are as the daughter of a King
- You are worth dying for. (John 3:16)
- You are chosen, holy and dearly loved. (Colossians 3:12)
- You are redeemed. (Ephesians 1:7)
- You can survive whatever lemons life throws at you. (Philippians 4:13)
- You are free from condemnation. (Romans 8:1)
Stop banging up the girl in the mirror and speak God’s truth into your mind and heart!
You are wonderful and marvelous because you are a child of the King! Share on XWhat can we do to combat the lies?
Lies are a by-product of living in a fallen world. Lies are part of society, church, the work place and home. We can’t escape them.
So how do we fight back? We pray. We replace the lies with God’s truth. And we do our best to live with integrity as daughters of the King.
