No Such Thing As Perfect

I’ll let you in on a little secret, there’s no such thing as perfect! We know this, yet still set unreasonable standards for ourselves and others. What’s up with that?

We are all a little broken, and that’s OK!

We will never be perfect. Most of us will never be a size 0 or have perfect hair or perfect makeup. Or even the perfect clothes.

Let’s just get this out in the open now. There’s no such thing as a perfect marriage, the perfect job or the perfect spouse. You’ll never have the perfect home or be the perfect mom. Forget about having that perfect waistline.

There is no such thing as perfect.

It’s easy to get caught up in perfectionism. It’s not fun. It can even be suffocating. Fear keeps you playing it safe because stepping out of that bubble means you might fail or make a fool of yourself in the process.

We can easily flipflop over to the other side of the perfectionism and start coasting through life. We start playing it safe and/or lower our expectations. We live below our potential and expect others to disappoint us as well. Life becomes boring and safe.

We need to figure out a healthy balance between not trying at all and over-trying to the point of crazy. Living for Jesus helps bring us the balance we need.

We have an enemy that wants us to blend in with the crowd. But Jesus, He wants us to shine for Him!

There's no such thing as perfect. The enemy wants us to blend in with the crowd, but Jesus, He wants us to shine for Him!

There’s no such thing as perfect and it’s time to celebrate this reality!

Let's punch fear in the face and be the special person God created us to be! Share on X

Let’s forget happiness, perfection, or whatever else we might be striving for today, at least as dictated by the world’s standards. Let’s also forget apathy, not caring and checking out of life. Both are extremes. We need balance.

It’s time to get into God’s Word and unpack all the beauty He has in store for us! We can choose to be the special person God created us to be!

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

You are God’s handiwork. That’s something amazing to celebrate today!

It’s time for us to gain some perspective.

What part of life do you struggle with perfectionism or apathy? There may be many areas you like to bang yourself up on. Trust me, I’m an expert.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. So tackle one issue, one area at a time. Take it slow

There are times where we may need to make some hard decisions and let go of the things that suffocate us and zap our joy. We may need to say goodbye to people that tear us down and then take time to heal and let Jesus pick us back up.

It might be time to have a heart to heart with yourself and stop hiding behind whatever excuses stop you from breaking free of trying to be perfect. This is not easy work, but it’s so worth the effort. I have years of therapy under my belt to back that statement up. I showed up to do the hard work and it was worth all the tears and effort.

Don't wait for everything to be perfect to be happy. There's no such thing as perfect!

There is no such thing as perfect so embrace your crazy!

Let’s agree to move forward today and find our “happy” resting in the Lord, not in other people or our failed expectations. Let’s get downright JOYFUL in the middle of whatever comes our way, even if it’s a hardship or trial.

If the Lord is with us even in the worst, most difficult times of life, then how can we fail when we rest in Him?

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

We can be joyful despite all the imperfection and pain of life.

In fact, maybe you should find time to thank God for your struggles, especially if they’ve helped bring you into a deeper relationship with Jesus and molded you into the Christian woman that you are today.

If life was always hunky-dory would you have a deep, rich faith? Probably not!

We all have issues to deal with in our lives. No one is perfect. We all have baggage. And we all desperately need a savior. Sometimes in the day-to-day hustle and bustle of life, we forget all that. We put on our smiley faces, tell the world we are “fine” and go about our daily lives barely scratching the surface with our husbands, kids, family and friends.

Let’s decide to be real with one another, even though vulnerability can be really scary!

Be bold and share your deepest fears, craziest imperfections, silliest failures and deepest joys with other trustworthy humans! Let’s tear down the walls of shame, perfection and insecurity; and find the freedom that comes from being a daughter of a King.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
