Sometimes, it’s not about big breakthroughs or profound thoughts. It’s about the little comforts that remind you that you’re still here, still healing, and still moving forward. For me lately, that looks like iced coffee in a quiet kitchen, with the blinds open and the air conditioning cranked (it’s a hot Wisconsin summer).

Honestly, a little bit of my heart is cracked open too. I’m in a healing era. I didn’t think life would turn out like it has. It’s been a little messy the past few years. But I’ve been intentional this summer, filling time with slow, quiet, and lazy weekends, along with gentle reminders for my soul to breathe.

Lately, I’ve made it a point to try something new every time I go to the grocery store, while also permitting myself to buy things that make my life less stressful, while my heart and mind recover from grief and exhaustion.

iced coffee with key lime and sweet cream

Score one for me when I found a bottle of DECAF cold brew from STōK. I’ve been waiting for a decaf to show up in the refrigerated section. I know it’s not super complicated to make your own cold brew. But it’s more than I have the energy for right now, so if there’s a simple way I can lighten my load, I’m all for it!

I spotted Califia Farms Key Lime Colada in the fridge,it’s one of my latest “something new to try” purchases and decided to throw some into my coffee. Boy am I glad I did! It’s a little tangy, a little creamy, sort of like key lime pie meets a sweet little cloud of coconutty goodness. It’s perfect for an iced coffee, especially along with a little sweet cream. I’m in heaven!

This iced coffee recipe is bright, simple, and sweet, like a summer breeze and a second chance swirled into a cup or mason jar of your choice!

P.S. I know it’s just coffee. But it’s also a reminder that even in the swirl of everything unfinished or uncertain, there’s still sweetness to be found; still light, still peace, still God’s kindness reaching into the ordinary.

If today feels heavy for you, or you just need a moment to breathe, maybe this little cup of something bright will help you remember that you’re allowed to enjoy simple things. You’re allowed to rest. And you don’t have to exhaust yourself and do it all to be deeply, fully loved by God.

🌴 Iced Coffee with Key Lime & Sweet Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cold brew, regular or decaf. I love STōK cold brews. (You can go to their website and find stores near you for decaf; it’s harder to find online.)
  • 1/4 cup Califia Farms Key Lime Colada drink.
  • 2-4 T sweet cream, I love lactose-free by Organic Valley for extra creaminess.
  • Optional: A splash of pure maple syrup or vanilla for extra sweetness.
  • Bonus: zest a bit of lime, or squeeze some fresh on top.

If you can’t find Califia Farms Key Lime Colada drink near you, try mixing half a lime (or some lime juice) with a few tablespoons of canned coconut creme together and pour it into your coffee. It won’t be the same, but it will still taste yummy!

Directions:

  1. Fill a glass with ice. I typically use a large mason jar.
  2. Pour in your cold brew of choice.
  3. In a small glass or bowl, whisk together the Key Lime Colada, sweet cream (or milk or half-and-half), and sweetener, if using.
  4. Slowly pour the sweet cream mixture over ice and coffee and watch it swirl.
  5. Stir if you like, or leave it dreamy and layered.
  6. Sip and enjoy. Relax and breathe!

Optional fun:

  • Froth the sweet cream for a foamy, café-style top.
  • Add a little lime zest or cinnamon on top.
  • Dip the rim of your glass in crushed graham crackers or brown sugar, or sprinkle on top of your final creation for a key lime pie feel. You can go crazy and even add a dollop of whipped cream if you’d like. Whip cream is an added fun bonus for me somedays!
